The «MDNA Tour» (promoted as the «Madonna 2012 World Tour») is the ninth concert tour by the star. It promotes her twelfth studio album, «MDNA» and will visit Asia, Europe, North America and South America.
The tour features the singer’s first concert appearances in the United Arab Emirates and various territories in the US and Canada. It will follow the record-breaking 2008–09 «Sticky & Sweet Tour» and is the second concert tour under her 360 deal with «Live Nation Entertainment».
The tour was officially announced on February 7, 2012, following the singer’s performance at the Super Bowl XLVI («Bridgestone Halftime Show»).
Tickets went on sale the following week. Showing initial success, many outlets sold out within minutes. In Canada, the concert at the «Bell Centre» sold 16.000 tickets in 20 minutes, along with the show at the «Plains of Abraham», selling 65.000 tickets in one hour. Additional sellouts were reported for Berlin, Amsterdam and New York City. With the ticket sales, shows were added in Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Jose, Chicago, Toronto and Vancouver.
22.000 tickets for Madonna’s first ever show in Abu Dhabi sold out in record-breaking one hour, prompting its promoter to add the second concert there.
Overall, the tour is expected to have 90 performances, becoming Madonna’s longest tour to date.
